Focused Reader is a distraction-free, word-by-word reading app. It is built to be private by design: your books and reading activity stay on your device. This policy explains what that means in plain language.
The short version: We don't have accounts, we don't run ads, and we don't collect or sell your personal data. Your library, bookmarks, and reading progress live only on your phone. The only time data leaves your device is when you choose to download a free book from an online catalog, or when a subscription payment is processed.
Nothing about you personally. Focused Reader has no user accounts, no login, and no profile. We do not collect your name, email, contacts, location, or a device advertising ID, and we do not include any analytics or tracking SDKs.
The books you import or download, your bookmarks, your reading progress, and your app settings are stored only in the app's local storage on your device. We cannot see this data, and it is never uploaded to us or to anyone else. If you uninstall the app, this data is removed with it. You can back it up yourself using the app's export feature, which writes a file to a location you choose — that file stays under your control.
When you import a book, the app reads the EPUB, PDF, or text file you select (or that you share to the app from another app) and processes it on your device to prepare it for reading. These files are not transmitted anywhere.
The app lets you browse and download public-domain books from third-party online catalogs (for example, Project Gutenberg). When you use this feature, your device makes a normal internet request to those services. As with any web request, the remote server receives technical information such as your IP address; we do not send any personal information about you, and we have no control over those third parties' own practices. If you never use the online catalog, the app makes no such requests.
Focused Reader is offered as a subscription with a free trial. All payments are processed by Google Play — we never see or store your credit-card or payment details.
To determine whether your subscription is active, the app uses RevenueCat, a subscription-management service acting as our data processor. When you purchase or restore a subscription, RevenueCat receives a randomly generated anonymous identifier (not linked to your name or email), your purchase receipt from Google Play, and basic technical information such as your device platform and app version. We use this solely to unlock the app's features for you. We do not use it for advertising, and we do not combine it with any other data.
Their handling of that data is governed by the RevenueCat Privacy Policy. Google's handling of your payment is governed by the Google Play Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.
If you turn on the optional daily reading reminder, the notification is scheduled and shown entirely on your device. No reminder data is sent to us or any server.
You can decline or later revoke these in your device settings; the app simply disables the related feature.
We do not sell your data, and we do not share personal data with third parties for advertising. There is no advertising in the app. The only third parties involved are the ones described above: online book catalogs you choose to download from, Google Play for payment processing, and RevenueCat for subscription status.
Because the app holds no personal data about you on any server, there is generally nothing for us to retrieve, correct, or erase on request. If you are in the EEA or UK and believe we hold data relating to you, you may contact us at the address above and we will respond. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Because Focused Reader has no accounts and keeps your library, bookmarks, and reading progress only on your device, there is normally no personal data held about you on any server. The one exception is the anonymous subscription record kept by our payment processor, RevenueCat — a randomly generated identifier plus your Google Play purchase receipt (see Subscriptions and payments above); it is not linked to your name or email.
To request deletion of that record, email elias.spilak@gmail.com with the subject "Data deletion request." We will delete the associated subscription record from RevenueCat and confirm by email, normally within 30 days. Note that deleting this record does not cancel an active subscription — you manage or cancel that in the Google Play Store — and any data stored locally on your device is removed whenever you uninstall the app.
Focused Reader is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Because your reading data never leaves your device, it is protected by your device's own security. We hold no server-side copy of it to secure or to breach.
If we change how the app handles data, we will update this policy and its effective date. Material changes will be reflected in the app's store listing.
